88 year old Heather Lee breaking new ground and inviting you to join her at Relay For Life
Multiple Australian and world record holder Heather Lee is accustomed to breaking new ground. In 2015 she will do this again as she prepares for her latest world record attempt at the Bankstown Masters Games in the 5km and 10km running events this Easter.
Win or lose Heather Lee OAM is already a winner breaking these records in training and currently holding all Australian Racewalking records in her age group. She currently has 23 gold medals securing 22 of these from running and walking events in just 3 years.
Her life has not been without its fair share of adversity and after losing her husband to cancer found walking to be the best therapy. A stress fracture in her left foot sustained in 2014 almost looked like getting the better of her however with the help of her physiotherapist and dedicated team of health professionals she has never felt more confident.
Heather comments: “I’m definitely a competitive person but the great thing about Relay For Life is that it is not a race. You can walk as many laps as you feel comfortable at the pace you are prepared to go. It’s about being there supporting your community, having fun, sharing the load and enjoying the entertainment and atmosphere.”
To celebrate this ground breaking occasion and Heather’s commitment to raising awareness and vital funds for Cancer Council, Heather and her generous sponsors Dan and Bruce from the Gold Company are extending an open invitation to all in the Hawkesbury community to donate and join with Heather at Relay For Life by registering as part of her team.
Heather said: “I usually enter a team alone but this year I would like to raise awareness and share my passion for walking with others. I am 88 this year and if all of my friends donated just $8 to my team the difference we would be making in beating cancer would be remarkable. It really doesn’t take much and most importantly we’d be doing it together.”
Joining and donating to Heather’s team is easy. Jump online at www.relayforlife.org.au and search ‘Heather Lee’ to start your Relay journey for just $15 per person. Cost includes a Relay For Life shirt, breakfast at the event and by using the special promo code HAWKCOUR15 you can save 10% off your registration fee.
Hawkesbury Relay For Life will take place on Saturday 23rd May starting at 9.30am at Hawkesbury Showground finishing on Sunday 24th May at 10am.
Relay For Life is a fun, overnight community event where teams take turns to walk around a track raising money and awareness for Cancer Council. All funds raised help Cancer Council to beat cancer through vital research, prevention campaigns and providing information and support for patients, their families and friends.
“If you have enthusiasm and a passion to defeat cancer then you have what it takes to join me” Heather said.
